Description:The mining industry is poised to meet the Nation's needs in energy as well as the many other commodities the industry produces, but in all of these cases the consumer takes these products for granted. I will not dwell here on the need for increased effort to educate the public on the importance that the minerals industry plays in the vitality of this country as well as the economic stability of our economy. We must all continue to do our part relative to the education of the public, as well as policy makers' in this important matter. As we look forward, there are several areas that are important relative to the health and stability of the industry. [Description provided by NIOSH]
