Description:Changes in workforce demographics and work employment arrangements challenge the ability of safety managements to ensure the health and safety of all workers. The twenty-first century has brought changes in the mix of industries of many countries; changes to the age, gender, and racial/ethnic demographic profile of the workforce; changes to the labor participation rate; and changes to the arrangements that firms use to perform economic work. Standard work arrangements now exist alongside several different types of work arrangements, such as agency work, contract work, and gig work. This chapter describes the changing workforce and work arrangement changes that require safety and health professionals to develop new competencies in diversity management.
