  • Description:
Jill Snyder, CDS, can really be considered a pioneer in the field of safety in Washington's trucking industry. In 2000, she was the first woman and only the second person in Washington to achieve Certified Director of Safety from the North American Transportation Management Institute. So it was no surprise to anyone who knows her when she was recognized by Washington Trucking Associations (WTA) and received the Safety Professional of the Year award* in 2013. (* The Safety Professional of the Year award is presented to the safety professional whose company and colleagues believe that he or she has made an impact on safety in their company and in the industry. The individual must have a passion for safety that is shown by their dedication and ethics.) Jill's 33 years of experience in trucking began in dispatching, but didn't stop there. She is a self-taught organizer with attention to detail. After acing her first DOT audit, she found herself sought after by companies desperate to get their companies in compliance. Jill gladly met with workers and managers to train them on the essentials of safety and bookkeeping. Jill's dedication to safety and willingness to share what she knows has kept her on the board of directors for the WTA safety council for more than 15 years. In this role, she has helped guide newer safety directors to expand their roles and helped company managers understand the importance of safety as a cost saver in their companies. Jill lives by the safety philosophy that there are no secrets. She gladly shares her knowledge with anyone who wants to learn. She says no one should be afraid to plagiarize a great safety policy. She laughed while sharing the story of coming to her current position at Premier Transport. She looked at their safety policy and realized she had written it! Apparently, she was home.
