Description:The effects of natural ventilation on mine ventilation systems are well documented and have been theoretically studied for decades. However, quantifying and incorporating these effects into a comprehensive and effective mine ventilation plan is difficult especially for large- opening mines. This study focuses on incorporating natural ventilation into ventilation planning to optimize the airflow reaching the mining section and minimize losses throughout the system. The ventilation parameters i.e. pressure, temperature, and relative humidity, of both a single-level and multi-level mines have been monitored continuously for periods of time spanning across multiple seasons. Analysis of this ventilation data shows the effect natural ventilation has on the mine ventilation system. [Description provided by NIOSH]
