Description:A 60-year-old truck driver was pulled off on the side of the road to spend the night. While he was asleep the city plowed the roads, effectively snowing him in. Unfortunately, he did not have a shovel to dig out so he tried using the winch bar. The excessive labor involved in using the wrong tool ruptured the rotator cuff in his shoulder. He's been off work for nearly a year now. That means he's living on about 60 percent of his salary. He hopes others will learn from his hard lesson and prepare for the snow in advance. Tips to live by - DRIVERS: Keep a collapsible shovel in your tractor. Double check your emergency supplies. EMPLOYERS: Provide collapsible shovels for your drivers. Set aside time for all drivers to check their trucks for winter supplies. [Description provided by NIOSH]
