Description:Learning from experience: 1) Forklift drivers have been injured from being in the trailer when the truck started to move away from the dock. 2) Develop a policy to prevent this from occurring. Preferred method: Do not allow a truck to be loaded or unloaded until its ignition key has been turned over to the forklift driver. Other tips to keep forklift drivers safe: 1) Forklift drivers should always wear seatbelts. Don't try to jump from a tipping forklift. 2) Educate truck drivers on your loading policies, especially if you don't require holding the truck keys. Holding the invoice may not be enough to keep workers safe. 3) Always set the truck's parking brake. [Description provided by NIOSH]
