Description:This chapter gives guidelines for methane measurement in mines and tunnels. The emphasis is on the measurement procedure and the interpretation of the measurement rather than on the instrument itself. The failure to properly sample for methane is a major contributing factor to methane explosion risk. Sampling errors are most likely to occur at mines or tunnels where the presence of methane is not suspected or during nonroutine tasks at mines or tunnels known to have gas.
