Description:A modified sulfur cement comprising the polymeric reaction product of elemental sulfur and a cyclopentadiene oligomer-containing reactant. Cement compositions can be formulated by blending an aggregate material with the modified sulfur cement. For example, a concrete consisting of 77 wt pct quartz aggregate and 23 wt pct sulfur modified by 3.75 wt pct dicyclopentadiene and 1.25 wt pct oligomer, blended at 140 deg C, had a compressive strength of 6,180 psi, a tensile strength of 715 psi, and a flexural strength of 1,230 psi. A mixture consisting of 79 wt pct limestone and 21 wt pct sulfur modified by 3.75 wt pct dicyclopentadiene and 1.75 wt pct oligomer, blended at 140 deg C, had a compressive strength of 8,170 psi, a tensile strength of 1,020 psi, and a flexural strength of 1,570 psi.
