La nanotecnologÃa es el estudio, diseño, creación y manipulación de materiales a un nivel molecular. Esta nueva tecnologÃa permite la creación de materiales de tamaños que oscilan entre 1 y 100 nanómetros (1 nanómetro es 1 mil millonésima parte de un metro). Las partÃculas creadas a nivel de nanoescala tienen diferentes propiedades fÃsicas y quÃmicas que las partÃculas más grandes tomadas del mismo material. Estas nanopartÃculas de fabricación se conocen como nanopartÃculas creadas artificialmente. Los cientÃficos y los fabricantes pueden usar las nanopartÃculas para crear nuevos productos que serÃan imposibles de obtener con partÃculas más grandes. Este folleto se enfoca en las siguientes preguntas: ¿Son las nanopartÃculas peligrosas para los trabajadores? ¿Cómo pueden estar expuestos los trabajadores? ¿Se pueden medir las nanopartÃculas? ¿Se puede controlar la exposición de los trabajadores?
