  • Description:
A significant number of new educational materials and on-line videos were added to the National Agricultural Safety Database (NASD; www.nasdonline.org) during the project period, including print documents, video abstracts, and on-line videos. The collection now consists of over 2,700 print publications comprising over 6,000 pages, over 380 video abstracts, and over 20 on-line videos. A complete review and update of all video abstracts was conducted to ensure availability and relevance. NASD solicited and received permission from the Journal of Agricultural Safety and Health to host abstracts of its entire 15-year run, thus incorporating a major agricultural safety and health reference into the collection. A new interactive training component called the NASD Training Series was introduced. Located at www.nasdtraining.org, this new component includes an administrative back-end, a user registration system, and lessons on PTO safety and on safely sharing the road with agricultural equipment. These two on-line lessons have already been used in the field and have received the Blue Ribbon Awards for Educational Media from the American Society for Agricultural and Biological Engineers in 2010. It became necessary during the contract period to relocate NASD from its old home on the CDC server to an external server. The site how has its own URL - www.nasdonline.org. There were numerous ramifications of this necessary move. The NASD site was redesigned inside and out. From a user's perspective, the interface was greatly simplified and the site has a more modern appearance. From a developer's perspective, maintenance and expansion tasks are much more efficient. Promotional materials related to the site relocation and site redesign were disseminated to the ag safety community. Finally, an on-line, voluntary survey was conducted.
