  This five year report describes the activities of Universities Occupational Safety and Health Educational Resource Center (UOSHERC), or Region II (New York/New Jersey) Educational Resource Center, from July 1, 1992 through June 30, 1997. During these five years, the constituent programs of the Region II NIOSH ERC have trained a large cadre of occupational safety and health professionals. UOSHERC serves the New York/New Jersey area with a metropolitan population of 18 million people and combined statewide populations of approximately 25 million people. At present, UOSHERC is a consortium of five institutions offering seven programs in occupational safety and health at five campus locations, including: Mt. Sinai School of Medicine - Center Administration; Mt. Sinai School of Medicine - Occupational Medicine; Robert Wood Johnson Medical School - Occupational Medicine; University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey School of Nursing; Robert Wood Johnson Medical School - Occupational Health Nursing; New Jersey Institute of Technology - Occupational Safety & Health Engineering; Hunter College - Industrial Hygiene and Hazardous Substance Training Program; Robert Wood Johnson Medical School- Continuing Education; New York University Medical School- Occupational Hygiene. During the 1992-1997 period, New York University sponsored a training program in occupational hygiene as part of UOSHERC. NIOSH has discontinued this link for the future. As a way of documenting the needs in the field, we issued a major report to NIOSH in 1996 entitled Costs of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses in the United States. 1992 (Archives in Internal Medicine. 157:1557-1568, 1997). In 1997, we proposed a new program, Occupational Health Risk Communication, which was approved by NIOSH but not funded. [Description provided by NIOSH]
