Description:During the 5 years from July 1, 1992 through June 30, 1997, the Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety continued to offer core programs in industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, and occupational health nursing; developed further the supplementary programs in occupational injury epidemiology and prevention, and agricultural health and safety; initiated an academic training program in hazardous substance management; maintained continuing education efforts in traditional program areas and developed new initiatives in lead (7439921) abatement and hazardous substance training and became an OSHA certified center for delivery of OSHA courses. During this period, 78 new trainees were enrolled of whom 29 received their graduate degrees. A further 38 degrees were awarded to trainees who commenced their programs before July of 1992. The Continuing Education program offered a total of 474 courses that were attended by 12,246 participants. Faculty in each of the programs at the Midwest Center continued to provide outreach to other departments of the University, to other educational institutions, voluntary organizations, professional associations, governmental agencies and the general public throughout the region.
