  The overall goal of the Iowa Occupational Safety and Health Training program was to contribute to occupational disease and injury prevention in industrial, environmental and agricultural sectors of Iowa, the region, and nationally, and internationally, with specific interest being given to rural needs. Specific objectives of the program were to train industrial hygiene professionals needed regionally and nationally for careers in industrial, environmental and agricultural settings and in research at the Masters and PhD levels. Also of importance was the training of occupational medicine physicians, to provide opportunities for supervised research and field experiences for industrial hygienists and occupational medicine physicians in training, and to provide this training in concert with an interdisciplinary approach to prepare students and physicians to practice as members of an occupational and environmental health team. Accomplishments during the period included faculty development, improved recruitment methods, enhanced curriculum options, increased research opportunities, and expanded outreach and educational activities.
