Description:SAFETY FIRST was developed as an expert system to identify fall safety problems that may result in a fall accident and to investigate the causes of a fall accident that has already occurred. In this volume of the three volume set, construction of the knowledge base of SAFETY FIRST was discussed. This step included developing the user interface, which needed a systematic design of screens displaying the queries prompted to the users. The queries are used to obtain evidence and information that may verify the cause of a fall. The fault tree models were converted into decision trees arranged in tabular form. These decision trees were developed from the fault tree pattern to include the evidence and information about conditions which existed during the fall. Potential users tested the system for efficiency and logic, and experts validated its accuracy, completeness, applicability and how well the system solved a problem. This volume also included a formal evaluation of a representative subsystem of SAFETY FIRST by independent experts and potential users. [Description provided by NIOSH]
