Description:A curriculum guide for occupational safety and health technicians is presented. The guide was developed by determining job entry requirements in terms of skills and knowledge, the educational experiences necessary to meet these requirements, and the future needs for occupational safety and health technicians. These were determined by sending a mail questionnaire to 1,104 business, labor, and government organizations in the state of California and by conducting 37 interviews, patterned on the questionnaire, with organizations located throughout California. The curriculum was based on analyses of the questionnaire survey and interview data. Curriculum requirements for an occupational safety and health certificate are presented. The certificate will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of 6 of 10 courses in such areas as introductory occupational safety and health, physical hazards control, safety and health standards, elements of industrial hygiene, motor fleet safety, industrial fire protection, human factors in safety, and safety program management. Suggested courses for an Associate Degree program in occupational safety and health are listed. These include 30 units in occupational safety and health, 17 units in general education, 2 in physical education, 8 in physics and chemistry, 3 in mathematics, and 3 in psychology.
