Description:Our Mission: "The National Farm Medicine Center will be a national resource, conducting high quality research, developing and delivering health and safety information, exploring innovative service models and effecting broad change to improve human health and safety associated with rural and agricultural work, life and environments." PROJECTS: 1. National Children's Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety (NCCRAHS) - a) AgInjuryNews.org; b) Childhood Agricultural Safety Network (CASN); c) Farm/Agriculture/Rural Management-Hazard Analysis Tool (FARM-HAT); d) Filling Gaps in Child Agricultural Injury Data; e) Grain Handling Safety Coalition via CASN; f) Enhancing Supervisors' Skills and Employer Policies to Promote and Protect the Health of Young Agricultural Workers; g) Integrating Safety into Agritourism; h) Intervention through Inquiry: Understanding Beginning Farmers and Ranchers; i) Mini-Grants; j) Next Generation of Agricultural Work Guidelines for Youth; k) Protecting Children While Parents Work; l) Safety in Agriculture for Youth (SAY) (Penn State); m) Farm Injury Cohort Study (U Saskatchewan); and n) Strengthening Organizational Capacity. 2. National Farm Medicine Center (NFMC) - a) Farm Mapping to Assist, Protect and Prepare Emergency Responders (Farm MAPPER) - Augmented Reality; b) Integrated Pediatric Primary Care and Child Farm Safety; c) Journal of Agromedicine; d) Microbiome of Farm Environment; e) Skin Cancer Screening; f) Spheres of Influence; g) Veterans to Farmers; h) Wisconsin Infant Study Cohort (WISC); and i) Wisconsin Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS) Rebate Program. 3. Upper Midwest Agricultural Safety and Health Center (UMASH) - a) Facilitating Return to Work for Injured and Ill Animal Agriculture Workers; b) Quality of Life with Robotic Milking Systems; c) Rural Firefighters Delivering Agricultural Safety and Health (RF-DASH); d) Seguridad en Las Lecherias (Safety in Dairies); e) Surveillance of Disease and Injury in Wisconsin Dairy Farmers and Workers; f) Telling the Story of Agricultural Safety; and g) Tickborne Disease Risk for Agricultural Workers and their Families in the Midwest. NFMC/NCCRAHS staff members participate as advisors and board members in many organizations, keeping abreast of emerging trends, disseminating new research findings and resources, expanding partnership opportunities, and helping to frame the national discussion of agricultural safety and health.
