Description:This list of toxic substances is the second edition of The Toxic Substances List which is prepared at least annually in accordance with Section 20(a)(6)of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1970, Public Law 91-596. The original list, completed on the 28th of June 1971, forms the basis for the revised list. There has been incorporated a change in the format which was intended to improve the effectiveness in use by interested readers and to facilitate the use of automatic data processing methods in publications and search. In addition, there have been added carcinogenic and neoplastic entries from "The Survey of Compounds Which Have Been Tested for Carcinogenic Activity", prepared for the National Cancer Institute, and additional listings from the literature received after the completion of last year's list. The number of synonyms has been substantially increased and includes common, workaday names as found and identified. [Description provided by NIOSH]
