Description:In an effort to control the wood dust generated during the use of automated routers, a new control system, the computer controlled Jet Stripper System, was developed. The system contained 24 jets combined into eight operational units uniformly located around the inside periphery of the brush holder. The Jet Stripper and brush surrounded the router bit. Air was supplied to the jets under pressure as the pneumatic valves were activated. The dust particles were effectively slowed down by the air from the jets so that these particles could be captured by the local exhaust hood. The system was able to reduce airborne dust exposure by 90%. The Stripper did not in any way interfere with the operator performing his job, was relatively inexpensive and not time consuming to maintain, and was not costly to operate or install. It is also possible to use this same system with conventional, one dimensional routers with some modification. At present this control device is not commercially available.
