  Projects were described in this document which reflect the direction of the National Strategies for the Prevention of the Ten Leading Work Related Diseases and Injuries. Statements of purpose were included for each of the NIOSH divisions including the Division of Biomedical and Behavioral Science; the Division of Physical Sciences and Engineering; the Division of Respiratory Disease Studies; the Division of Standards Development and Technology Transfer; the Division of Surveillance, Hazard Evaluations, and Field Studies; the Division of Safety Research; and the Division of Training and Manpower Development. Summaries of national prevention strategies were included for research being conducted in the following areas: occupational lung disease, musculoskeletal injuries, occupational cancers, severe occupational traumatic injuries, occupational cardiovascular diseases, disorders of reproduction, neurotoxic disorders, noise induced hearing loss, dermatological conditions, and psychological disorders.
