Epichlorohydrin Manufacture and Use Industrial Hygiene Survey

  Walk through industrial hygiene surveys were conducted at five epichlorohydrin (106898) facilities, two manufacturers and three users. Air sampling data, summary tables of worker exposure levels to epichlorohydrin and associated solvents or process materials, evaluation of exposure level measurements, exposure control efforts, and recommendations for each of the sites were consolidated in this report. The greatest exposure to epichlorohydrin was found among those employed as chemical operators in the manufacturing and resin processes. Exposures ranged from nondetectable to 2.1 parts per million (ppm) for epichlorohydrin among those exposed to the epichlorohydrin manufacturing process and from nondetectable to 8.9ppm allyl-chloride (107051) for 20 samples taken at two of the sites. Exposure control efforts, including engineering controls, personnel controls, and housekeeping were discussed and recommendations for reducing exposure levels were presented.
