Description:A series of self evaluation question lists were developed for use in the electric utility industry to promote safety and health among employers and employees in industry, and to provide a greater awareness of the potential hazards in the development of comprehensive occupational safety and health programs. The field tested systematic questionnaire approach covered all identifiable work areas and work situations which the utilities using fossil fuel for electric power generation may face. Specific topics covered by this approach included aerial basket equipment, compressed gases, dusts, gases, organic solvents, electric meters, potential transformers, electrical wiring and switchboards, physical demands of the job, exits, explosives, blasting agents, fire prevention, flammable and combustible liquids, hand and portable tools, heat, heat stress, job planning, live line bare hand maintenance, machinery and machine guarding, materials handling and storage, medical and first aid, noise, overhead electrical distribution, personal protective equipment, pole handling, sanitation, temporary grounding, traffic barricading and channelization, transmission, trenching and shoring, underground distribution system, manholes and vaults, underground residential distribution, vehicles and cranes, walking and working surfaces, water treatment chemicals, welding, cutting, brazing, and working in electric substations.
