  This pamphlet described the NIOSH Current Intelligence System. The Current Intelligence System was developed in January of 1975 for the purpose of informing individuals of occupational health and safety hazards. The information supplied came from various sources including industry, labor, academia, and other government agencies and was supplemented with data from research studies, case histories of exposures, and work situations. If warranted, a Current Intelligence Bulletin (CIB) was later developed and distributed. A first step in the system was the preliminary evaluation and summarization of the new information which was distributed in a Mini Current Intelligence Bulletin, 2 to 3 pages long, distributed to NIOSH Office and Division Directors along with key Federal Agency personnel. The CIB was longer, and contained more information on specific hazards. An estimate would be made of the number of persons occupationally exposed, the occupations and industries involved, and the characteristics of the chemical or hazards with its potential impact on occupational safety and health. Persons who should receive a specific Bulletin were identified during the development of the document. These persons and a basic mailing list of 2,000 individuals received the Bulletin.
