Description:A NIOSH study of fugitive emissions from chemical processing equipment seals and fittings and an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) study to determine means of detecting, measuring, sampling, monitoring, and controlling these fugitive emissions are reviewed. Industrial sources and types of volatile organic compounds (VOC) emissions, seals and fittings effectiveness, VOC leak detection instruments, sampling techniques and analytical characterization, and emissions monitoring are discussed.
