Description:Exposure to antimony (7440360) and related contaminants was investigated at three major U.S. antimony production facilities. Air samples from each company were collected and analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry. Antimony concentrations at the three facilities were above the current OSHA unit of 0.5 milligrams per cubic meter. Concentrations of arsenic (7440382) also exceeded the current standard of 0.010 milligrams per cubic meter. In two of the companies, bagging operations were the largest areas of exposure. The authors suggest that controlling airborne antimony to 0.5 milligrams per cubic meter may help to reduce arsenic concentrations. [Description provided by NIOSH]
