  A booklet which lists all research and demonstration grants bestowed by NIOSH during the 1977/1978 fiscal year is presented. Such grants are available to colleges and universities, research institutions and all other public and private nonprofit organizations for the support of scientific and technical activities in all areas of occupational safety and health which sustain and support the functions of NIOSH. Areas of research for which NIOSH grants were awarded in 1977 included: 1) laboratory, clinical and epidemiological investigations of occupationally derived diseases, pathological changes, and physiological and psychological alterations; 2) studies of psychologic and motivational factors in occupational situations and their impact on job satisfaction and performance; 3) studies of safety factors in work flow, plant design, work operations, man-machine interactions, and occupational environment; 4) health effects of mining and energy extraction, utilization, conversion and transmission; 5) control methodologies and technologies for reduction or elimination of occupational hazards; 6) morbidity and mortality studies on humans exposed to occupational and industrial hazards; 7) workers adaptive mechanisms to occupational stress; and 8) studies on the nature of fatigue and its role in worker susceptibility to accidents and occupational illness. Each NIOSH grant for fiscal year 1977/1978 is listed, including grant number, performing institution, principal investigator, title, objectives, description, and related publications. Grants are also indexed according to program area, region, and state. Amount of each grant stipend is also given. [Description provided by NIOSH]
