  The National Occupational Hazard Survey Manual is used to provide much of the necessary guidance and instructions needed to achieve the objectives of the National Occupational Hazard Survey which attempts to develop basic information describing health and safety conditions in the American work environment by surveying a representative sample of workplaces. The manual documents the methods, techniques and decisions to be applied during the survey, and thus provides a ready reference to the surveyors in the field. The first section of the manual provides introductory information about the initiation of the survey, and the criteria, standards, and decision rules to be followed to properly recognize exposures to occupational hazards and the exposure control methods. The second section of the manual describes the methods and procedures to be used in quantifying and recording the results of the management interview and the facility walk-through survey.
