  Welding hazards and their control and the responsibilities of management and employees in controlling the hazards are briefly outlined in this pamphlet. The hazards consist of ultraviolet and infrared radiation, burns; ozone; carbon monoxide; nitrogen oxides; welder's flash; metal fume fever from cadmium, copper, nickel and zinc; fluorides; and electric shock. Control measures include effective ventilation, safety equipment such as helmets and goggles, and protective clothing. Management's responsibilities include informing workers of hazards, instructing and enforcing in safety practices, providing effective ventilation, and isolating welding operations. Responsibilities of employees include following safety practices, being alert to fire and other hazards, using required protective equipment and clothing, and reporting defective equipment and hazardous working conditions.
