Description:The environmental compliance process affects all aspects of hardrock- mining operations. The primary components of the environmental compliance process are requirements under the National Environmental Protection Act of 1969 (NEPA) and the permitting requirements associated with various other federal, state and local laws. This study considers the Greens Creek Mine and the development of two other projects (Alaska-Juneau & Kensington). These mines were used as the foundation for a case study of the impacts of the environmental compliance process on hard-rock mining activity in southeast Alaska. [Description provided by NIOSH]
