Description:A rotary-drilling exploration system was tested at the Ryan Lode, Fairbanks Mining District, Alaska, to determine its application for surface trenching and to evaluate the open-pit mining potential of a wide shear zone that contains gold-bearing gold-quartz veins. The drilling sampling system was verified as a practical substitute for surface trenching that minimized environmental damage; but where tested, the shear zone material does not contain sufficient values, together with individual vein values, for open-pit mining.
