Results of 1987 Bureau of Mines Placer Investigations of the White Mountains Study Area, Alaska

• Description:
  This report presents the results of a literature search and a site- specific sampling program of drainages in the White Mountains study area. The literature search identified 15 placer mineral properties, which were subsequently evaluated during this study. Of the 265 samples taken, physically separable quantities of gold were found in 49 samples collected from Beaver, Roy, Mascot, Nome, O'Brien, and Ophir Creeks, as well as from a tributary of American Creek. Nome and Beaver Creeks were found to have the highest gold values and were consequently rated as having high mineral development potentials for small size (100 to 500 yd3/day) placer mining operations.
