Description:Details are given of a fuel-induction system for a hydrogen-fueled engine. The induction system was designed to preclude backfire otherwise common in hydrogen-fueled engines. System features and test data are presented and discussed in the context of the requirements peculiar to use in an underground mine environment. The fuel-induction system, when tested in conjunction with a modified caterpillar 3304 engine, provided backfire-free engine operation and satisfactory engine performance.
