Description:Automatic fire protection systems were designed, installed, and tested to protect three basic types of surface mining equipment: a large, rubber-tired front-end loader; a large and a small blasthole drill; and a haul truck. The systems were tested after several months of installation and successfully discharged. The systems proved to be practical from the standpoint of protection, reliability, ease of maintenance, and cost effectiveness. [Description provided by NIOSH]
