Description:Study of the auger mining industry shows that the present state-of- the-art limits the total augerable coal reserve base to an estimated 5 billion tons. Improvements in auger technology allowing greater depths of penetration will increase the potential reserve base to approximately 20 billion tons thereby improving resource recovery and land reclamation.
