Description:A survey of methods used to control respirable dust in noncoal mines and ore processing mills was conducted. Both surface and underground mining operations were visited. Fifty mines and 51 processing plants were included in the survey. Dust control methods for 15 types of ores or mines were studied. The survey showed that the major reasons for overexposure to respirable dust were poor maintenance and housekeeping. It was concluded that in most cases the technology and equipment exist to control respirable dust in mines and processing plants. [Description provided by NIOSH]
