Comparison of serum levels of 2,3,7,8-TCDD in TCP production workers and in an unexposed comparison group

Description:The results of the analysis of 197 serum samples for 2,3,7,8- tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (1746016) (TCDD) were reported. These samples were taken from 143 workers and 54 unexposed referents in the New Jersey and Missouri cohorts. Workers in this analysis were employed at either of two facilities located in Newark, New Jersey or Venona, Missouri. Both facilities produced sodium- trichlorophenol (1320792) and 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic-acid (93765). The mean serum TCDD level for all workers was 251.7 parts per trillion (ppt) and for all referents combined it was 7.8ppt. The mean level of TCDD present in the serum of workers at the date of termination of exposures was 2,600ppt and 870ppt for the New Jersey and Missouri workers, respectively. The levels in the workers were correlated significantly with the duration of exposure to the TCDD contaminated processes. [Description provided by NIOSH]
