  UVGI is not new and there is a lot of evidence to support its effectiveness. As an industry, UVGI is still developing and needs more research, standardization and openness, but that is not a reason to avoid using it today. Care needs to be taken when selecting organic materials that will be in line-of-sight of direct/reflected UV energy. UVGI can work well with particulate filtration to reduce exposures to airborne microorganisms. [Description provided by NIOSH]
