Description:The Construction sector comprises establishments primarily engaged in the construction of buildings or engineering projects (e.g., highways and utility systems). Establishments primarily engaged in the preparation of sites for new construction and establishments primarily engaged in subdividing land for sale as building sites also are included in this sector. In 2012 there were 197,000 Illinois workers in the construction industry. Data source: North American Industry Classification System. 2012 Fatal Injury Facts: 16 fatal injuries occurred in the Illinois construction industry in 2012. About half (7) were due to falls, trips, or slips. 2012 Nonfatal Injury and Illness Facts-Construction: There were no reported injuries or illnesses for women. 25-34 year olds (34.7%) were the most common age group with a reported injury or illnesses. Rates of injury were highest in businesses' with 11-49 workers. The most common injury was cuts and lacerations ( n=710). The most common source of injury was due to parts and materials (n=780).
