Report of Investigations 8253: Remote Monitoring of Air Quality in Underground Mines

  This report presents several systems for continuously monitoring the quality of air in underground mines that are being developed by the Bureau of Mines. Underground stations measure methane, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen dioxide concentrations, air velocity, and air temperature. This information is transmitted over a single telephone pair to central stations located on the surface.
