  A workgroup discussed the possible field investigation of a link between male reproductive disorders and environmental exposures. This report presented information regarding the male reproductive health effects of major concern, the prerequisite information needed before considering a field study with particular emphasis on exposures and the number of men who are exposed, selection of study designs, the utility of questionnaires, and the selection and prioritization of relevant biomarkers. Male reproductive health effects of major concern included male infertility, male neuroendocrine or sexual dysfunction, and male mediated effects on the pregnancy or offspring. Study designs discussed include case reports, surveillance systems or registries, cross sectional studies, and cohort or prospective studies. Methods for assessing male reproductive disorders include reproductive history, physical examination and general health, biomarkers of neuroendocrine status including sexual function and semen quality, biomarkers of sexual function, biomarkers of neuroendocrine function, biomarkers of semen analysis, sperm counts, sperm motility, sperm morphology, viability assays, and expertise in specific semen sampling.
