Control of Dusts from Sanding in Autobody Repair Shops

  The use of high velocity low volume (HVLV) sanders is recommended by NIOSH to control airborne dusts that may contain hazardous substances. HVLV sanders have been shown to be effective in reducing the level of airborne dusts containing hazardous materials such as lead, chromium, and abrasives that may enter the lungs and nervous systems of autobody repair workers. The cost of installing central vacuum and HVLV systems can be expensive, but will eliminate expensive repaints, shorten cleanup time, minimize exposure of workers to hazardous dusts, and extend equipment life.
