  "The National Children's Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety strives to enhance the health and safety of all children exposed to hazards associated with agricultural work and rural environments." This issue includes the following articles. 1) Don't let safety take a summer vacation: resources offer guidance on working and non-working children, agritourism. Summer vacation, plentiful daylight and field work contribute to an annual spike in youth injuries on farms. 2) Mini-grant call for proposals. For the 10th consecutive year the National Children's Center is making available mini-grants of up to $20,000 to support smallscale projects and pilot studies that address prevention of childhood agricultural disease and injury. 3) E-discussion: WHO Report on Child Injury Prevention. Issues identified by the World Health Organization Report on Child Injury Prevention are the subject of e-discussions hosted by the International Society of Child and Adolescent Injury Prevention (ISCAIP). 4) Journal dedicates issue to world's young workers. The International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health has dedicated its current issue (Volume 16, Number 2) to "Child Labor and Protecting Young Workers Around the World." 5) First aid kits available. In response to requests from across the country, the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety has redesigned its Farm First Aid Kit. The kits contain heavy shears for cutting through jeans and jackets, an emergency blanket to cover an injured person for body heat retention and protection from the elements, eye wash, large adhesive bandage strips, a zipper lock bag for aid in reclaiming an amputated digit, and more. 6) National Farm Safety and Health Week to include children's day. Farm Safety and Health Day for Children and Youth will be Wednesday, September 22, 2010, during the annual National Farm Safety and Health Week. 7) NASD includes online trainings. The National Agricultural Safety Database (NASD) continues to add to its collection of publications, videos and PowerPoint presentations about agricultural safety and health. Online trainings include tractor PTO safety and road safety. 8) Share your safety work at AG CONNECT 2011. Exhibitors are needed for the "Safety Zone" at AG CONNE CT Expo 2011, January 8-10, at Georgia World Congress Center. 9) MRASH Forum calls for abstracts. Abstracts are now being accepted for research, education and outreach presentations at the Midwest Rural and Agricultural Safety and Health Forum, to be held at hotel Vetro in Iowa City, Iowa Nov. 17-18, 2010. 10) PNASH small grants deadline June 11. Each year the Pacific Northwest Agricultural Safety and Health Center (PNASH ) offers northwest researchers the opportunity to apply for two small grant awards, each in the amount of $30,000 direct costs. The goal of this program is to stimulate innovative research, encourage collaboration and attract investigators to the field of agricultural health and safety. [Description provided by NIOSH]
