Description:"Information on the toxicity and recommended exposure standards of diisocyanates is presented. Production methods and industrial uses of the chemicals are reviewed. Effects of exposure on the respiratory, immunologic and dermatologic systems in humans are discussed, along with the results of various epidemiologic and laboratory animal studies. Environmental concentrations of diisocyanates are noted, and current methods of engineering controls and sampling and analysis are described. The authors recommend that diisocyanate exposures be kept to 5 parts per billion (ppb) for a 10 hour time weighted average and 20ppb for a 10 minute ceiling exposure. Recommendations are included for medical monitoring, product labeling, use of personal protective clothing and equipment, worker hazard education, work practices, workplace hygiene, workplace monitoring, and recordkeeping procedures." -- NIOSHTIC-2
