Description:"Criteria for recommended standard occupational exposure to cresol (93516) have been established and are presented. Criteria and recommendations for cresol apply to the o, m, p, isomers or to any combination of the three isomers in a mixture. In addition, these criteria and recommendations will apply to cresylic-acid (93516) mixtures that contain cresol. Occupational injury from cresol exposure is from skin contact and inhalation. Concentrations of cresol in workplace air on a time weighted average 40 hr week can be no more than 10mg/m3. Procedures for the collection and analysis of environmental samples are given. Methods for medical examination and surveillance of workers including types of clinical tests and the frequency with which they must be administered ar presented. Required labels and warnings and their posting regulations are given. Necessary personal protective equipment include items for eye protection, skin protection and respiratory protection. Regulations for informing employees of hazards are included. Work practices for the manufacture and formulation of cresol are described, and sanitation and recordkeeping are discussed." - NIOSHTIC-2
