Description:Standards are recommended for occupational exposure to oxides of nitrogen, nitric-oxide (10102439) and nitrogen-dioxide (10102440). Standards cover: environmental (workplace air); medical surveillance; posting of hazardous areas; personal protective equipment; informing employees of hazards; work practices; and monitoring and reporting requirements. A discussion on the biologic effect of exposure presents case histories of nitrogen oxide poisonings, epidemiological studies, and data from animal studies of inhalation toxicity. Nitrogen oxide levels in air are given for welding operations, at silver brazing operations, and in chemical plants. The formation of N-nitroso compounds from nitrogen oxides and their effect on humans are also discussed. Environmental sampling techniques and analytical methods are given. " - NIOSHTIC-2
