  Presentation of criteria and recommendations for a standard governing exposure to beryllium and its compounds during processing, manufacture, and use of beryllium products. The criteria are developed to prevent berylliosis and other occupational diseases arising from exposure to the metal ion. The criteria are based upon extensive review of known biologic effects of exposure, beryllium's propreties, and environmental data. The criteria are intended to assure that the standard based on them will protect against development of acute and chronic beryllium disease, be attainable with existing technology, and amenable to valid, reproducible techniques available to industry and offical agencies.
