El Proyecto Bienestar: an authentic CBPR partnership in the Yakima Valley

  The Yakima Valley is located in central Washington State, a rich agricultural region producing most of the nation's apples and hops, along with many other labor-intensive crops. With the highest concentration of migrant and seasonal farmworkers in Washington State, the Yakima Valley has long attracted researchers interested in studying occupational and environmental health issues that effect this largely Hispanic migrant and seasonal farmworker population. Within El Proyecto Bienestar, environmental justice refers to the equal protection and education of all communities regarding environmental and occupational hazards. The primary goal of the project is to develop strategies that will enable the community of Hispanic agricultural workers to effectively identify, characterize, and respond to the many occupational and environmental health risks they and their families face.
