Description:The following chapter presents what might be an important advance in the treatment and prevention of asbestos-related cancers. Asbestos-induced AP-1 activation, in vitro and in vivo, provides some understanding of the cellular pathology leading to cancer and the mechanisms by which such growth might be inhibited. This chapter indicates that aspirin is just such an inhibitor of the regulating transcription factor AP-1. It suggests the pathways where searches could be made for possible therapeutic agents that might play an important role against asbestos-related malignancies. [Description provided by NIOSH]
