Description:Throughout this paper we have discussed the means and methods of NIOSH's economic research in a number of areas. Every study and each collaborative effort at NIOSH (with or without an economic component) is designed specifically to improve working conditions for the American worker. By improving the work environment and reducing the incidence and risk of illness, injury, or death (the mission of NIOSH), productivity will increase. By studying economic costs directly, contributory factors to losses can be identified and ways to increase productivity and reduce economic costs can be explored. [Description provided by NIOSH]
