Description:The sections that follow on different aspects of occupational and environmental respiratory diseases share one unifying diagnostic approach, namely, the need to characterize the respiratory disturbance regardless of suspect etiology. Each section identifies special features of the history, physical exantination, and laboratory testing that are relevant for the entities under discussion, but common to all is the need to become familiar with two essential diagnostic tools-the chest radiograph and spirometry and fuller pulmonary function tests.
