Analytical Performance Criteria: Beryllium Research Needs

  In 2002, the BHSC, through its Research Needs Subcommittee, developed a list of research needs with the goal of controlling beryllium exposure and preventing disease. Ideas were solicited from the committee, and these ideas were distributed to all of the committee members for ranking. Proposed topics for research needs were ranked as high, medium, or low priority and assigned to a category. A list of 31 topics was originally proposed in seven areas. Later, the seven original categories were condensed into four, and these four topics were then combined with other topic areas. This new list of 27 items has, after 5 years, been recirculated for comment and prioritization. The original purpose of the topics list was to provide a means of tracking improvements, breakthroughs, and lingering needs, as well as to provide a list of possible research topics for future pursuit. The purpose of the list remains the same, but some topics have been addressed, while a few appear to have been overlooked. [Description provided by NIOSH]
